A brief is a leader's typed task for one follower: a mode from a closed list, a job or artifact, evidence ids and one bounded question. The runtime renders the follower's prompt from a fixed template; only the question travels, as data. One live brief per addressee; "any" is taken by the first free follower. What followed is the first finding, revision, response, label, annotation or code summary the taker wrote after taking the brief and before it expired; notes and mail are not counted, and the record is not checked against the question.
